Current newspaper, yearbook staffs become most award-winning in school history

Over the years, the staff members of the Bryant High School newspaper and yearbook,[more] under the tutelage of instructor Margaret Sorrows, have set a high standard for excellence on a regional and national level. Honors are accrued on an annual basis.

But with the 2012-13 staff members garnering 21 individual awards in the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association convention Nov. 15-18, they have become the most award-winning in school history, according to Sorrows.

The convention, held in San Antonio, included over 1,700 students competing and 4,500 students in attendance.
Overall, in Best of Show competition, all three publications placed. The 2012 Yearbook received a third-place award while the newspaper, Prospective, was awarded seventh place for its November issue. In addition, the new Prospective website earned a fourth-place award.

Sophomore Abigail Resendiz – Excellent literary magazine layout

Junior Robann Brown – Excellent literary magazine illustration

Senior Ashley Collins – Excellent newspaper sports photography

Senior Bethany Pilcher – Excellent yearbook student life photography

Junior Whitney Butler – Excellent photo portrait

Senior Madison Lowe – Honorable Mention newswriting

Senior Ashton Eley – Honorable Mention feature writing

Sophomore Brent Barker – Honorable Mention yearbook copy/captions/student life

Senior Sydney Cowell – Honorable Mention yearbook cover/endsheets
