In a game that was close early, the Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School fell victim to a[more] 13-0 run in the first half by the Cabot South Lady Panthers. Though they made a little noise right before the half, the Lady Hornets never quite recovered, absorbing a 41-19 setback at the BMS gym.

The Bryant White girls include Jayla Anderson, Lindsey Butler, Mallory Curry, Katie Davidson, Jerrica Gray, Haley Holliman, Destiny Huffman, Colleen Johnson, Miranda Lawrence, Taylor Lindberg, Makayla Nguyen, Alexis Parsely, Briana Rutherford, Sarah Shepard and Abby Staton.

Huffman scored 12 of her team’s points including all 9 in the second half. Lindberg, Johnson and Davidson each had a basket and Anderson contributed a free throw.

Cabot South broke to a 6-0 lead when Lindberg broke the ice for Bryant White. After a Cabot South answer, Anderson hit a free throw. Following a miss by the Lady Panthers, Huffman turned in a three-point play that had the Lady Hornets within 8-6.

They had a couple of shots at tying it but neither would fall and, with a basket right before the end of the quarter, Cabot South began it’s game-breaking run.

The Lady Hornets had a pair of trips to the free-throw line during that stretch but didn’t convert and the Lady Panthers’ lead grew to 21-6 before Davidson and Johnson got their baskets in the final minute of the half to trim the margin to 11.

But Cabot South opened the second half with a 16-2 blitz to put the game away.

Bryant White is set to return to action on Saturday at home against Central Arkansas Christian.
