PINE BLUFF — Sophomore Dylan Cross threw three perfect innings, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced in a scheduled doubleheader between the Bryant Hornets B team and the Pine Bluff Zebras B team on Tuesday, March 2. Hayden Daniel, Hayden Lessenberry, Tyler Nelson and Daniel Richards led the offense with multiple hits in a 21-0 win.[more]
Nelson started the second game but only threw one inning when the Hornets B team scored 13 times in the first inning.
Freshman Riley Hall took over in the second and finished the three-inning game as the duo combined on a no-hit shut out. Hall walked one which proved to be the lone Pine Bluff baserunner in a 23-0 rout.
"We are proud with both wins," said Bryant coach Mark Jelks. "It's a good starting point for us. We saw some things that we need to get better at but, overall, everyone did a great job. The competition level will only get tougher though. Everyone got to play at least two to three innings and we saw some good things happen with guys coming off the bench."
The B team is scheduled to return to action with a doubleheader against White Hall at home today at 4 p.m.
"They will give us a much better idea where we stand right now," Jelks stated. "They have a good program with quality baseball players."
