CABOT — The Bryant Junior Lady Hornets had all five of their scorers garner top 30 medals at the Walmart Junior High Cross Country Championship held Saturday.

On a sloppy, muddy course Bryant scored 80 points to finish runner-up in the team competition. Russellville won the title with 44 points. Lake Hamilton was third (87) followed by Cabot (117), Conway (119), Heber Springs (135), Star City (143), and Pulaski Academy (236). There were 185 total runners in the race.

Bryant was led by Zhania Hall who finished fifth with a time of 13:49. Maribeth Mead took 15th place with a time of 14:19. Finishing out the top five scorers were Sydney Dettmer (24th, 14:45), Olivia Orr (25th, 14:47), and Ellie O’Gary (30th, 15:05).

The top 7 included Mackenzie Moore (33rd, 15:06) and Mika Johnson (36th, 15:10).

“I was really proud of all our runners today for just making it to the finish line,” said Bryant coach Danny Westbrook. “They ran in some very adverse conditions. Zhania Hall and Maribeth Mead both had outstanding performances.

“This junior high girls team has some outstanding runners and I look for great things from them in the future,” he added. “With the end of our junior high season, I want to think our middle school coaches Coach Deanna Porter and Coach Denise Smith as well as Coach Debbie Clark for their great coaching job this season.”
