Regional debut of Bryant 10s proves successful

PAMPA, Texas — After blasting their way to the State championship unbeaten, the Bryant All-Stars resumed their winning ways with another lopsided win to start the 10U Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament on Saturday.

Their 18-0 win over St. John Parish, La., whisks them into a winners bracket semifinal game on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., against the survivor of a bracket that included Southeastern Oklahoma, host Pampa and Levelland, Texas.

The Bryant 10’s, coached by Jeremy Stovall, include Garrison Blacklaw, Brady Brower, Reid Catton, Clay Crawford, Gage Horn, Grant Johnson, Gideon Motes, Justen Myles, Hank Penfield, Karter Ratliff, Caden Stovall and
Cason Trickey.

Blacklaw, Catton and Stovall combined on a one-hit shutout in the four-inning contest. Meanwhile, Stovall led the offense with three hits. Johnson added two with a pair of runs batted in.

The lone hit for St. John Parish was a two-out single in the first.

In the bottom of the inning, Bryant established a 3-0 lead. Stovall lashed a single to right and stole his way to third. With one out, Johnson drilled a triple to center. Trickey was hit by a pitch and swiped second then a wild pitch allowed Johnson to score. Trickey followed a couple of pitches later on a passed ball.

An eight-run second commenced when Brower’s grounder to third drew a wild throw to first and Ratliff belted a double. Though Brower was thrown out at the plate trying to score, Stovall beat out an infield hit and stole second, setting the table for Penfield who chased in a run with a double to center.

Johnson’s base hit got Stovall and Penfield home to make it 6-0. After advancing to third on a passed ball, Johnson scored on Trickey’s groundout.

Blacklaw revved things up again with a double to left. He moved up to third on a grounder to the right side by Motes then a passed ball allowed him to score.

Catton walked and Blacklaw came home on a wild pitch. Horn’s base hit to center chased Catton home and it was 10-0.

Horn scored the final run of the inning when Brower’s bouncer to short was misplayed.

The barrage resumed in the bottom of the third. Myles legged out an infield hit and Trickey was struck by a delivery. Crawford walked to load the bases then a passed ball got Myles home. And when the ball got away, Trickey crossed the plate as well.

Motes reached on an error as Crawford scored and, after Catton singled, Horn walked to load the sacks.

After a pitching change, Brower walked, forcing in a run. Catton stole home and Stovall singled to make it 17-0. The final run was scored by Brower who raced in on an errant throw.

Stovall pitched around a one-out error in the top of the fourth and ended the game with a strikeout.
