Salt Bowl activities will include banquet for the first time

BRYANT — When the Bryant Hornets and the Benton Panthers kickoff the 11th annual Salt Bowl on Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. on the new field of War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, perhaps as many as 30,000 fans will be showing their colors for the favorite team.

This year's Salt Bowl is sponsored by Big Red, Everett's GMC/Buick, Jones Heating and Air, and Coca Cola.

And for the first time, $10 tickets are being packaged with a game t-shirt of each team's colors sporting the theme "Show Your True Colors." They are available for purchase at all Big Red locations in central Arkansas. Tickets the day of the game at War Memorial will be $8 and t-shirts will be sold separately for $10.[more]

SALT BOWL BANQUET

On Sept. 2, a banquet will be held for both teams beginning at 7 p.m., at the new Bishop Park Community Center on Boone Road in Bryant featuring former Arkansas Razorbacks Clint Stoener and Anthony Lucas as guest speakers. State Senator Shane Broadway will be the master of ceremonies. Both teams and their respective coaches will be recognized."We are inviting the football teams, cheerleaders, dance teams and bands from each school," said Bryant athletic director Tom Farmer.Parents may purchase tickets for the banquet at their respective athletic director's office(s) for the price of $15 each. There is a limited amount of space for the banquet, which will be catered by Western Sizzlin of Benton. Clay Steelman from First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant is organizing volunteers from the area youth groups to be servers for the event.

CLUB SEATING

Also for the first time, club seating tickets are on sale at the War Memorial Stadium office. For $100 each, fans can watch the game from the second floor of War Memorial Stadium’s newly renovated press box, receive personalized service from a wait staff with a full-service menu. GAME DAY

STATE'S LARGEST TAILGATE PARTY

The day of the game, Sept. 3, there will be the largest Tailgate Party in Arkansas held on the grounds around War Memorial Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. The tailgate party is sponsored by all of the Saline County area banks and will offer fans free hot dogs, chips and Coca Cola products. There will also be a Kid Zone that is sponsored by Midtown Church in Bryant that will have blow-ups for the kids on grassy area below the parking lot, carnival rides will be offered for all.

PRE-GAME

This year, the Salt Bowl has teamed up with the American Cancer Society and the Arkansas Rice Depot. There will be a check presentation to the American Cancer Society at 7 p.m., during pregame ceremonies on the football field. Following that, Saline County's peewee football teams and spirit groups will be recognized on the field.

HALFTIME

At halftime of this year's game there will be the opportunity for six contestants to win a GMC truck from Everett GMC/Buick by throwing a football into the back from a predetermined distance. To qualify for this event, Everett's will have a booth at the tailgate party where people can actually throw a football in the truck. The top six contestants will have the opportunity to compete for the truck at halftime. In addition, fans can sign up at Chick-fil-A in Bryant to be one of six people to out-kick the Chick-fil-A cow. Winners receive free chicken for a year.The bands and dance teams from both schools will also perform.

SALT BOWL GOLF TOURNAMENT

On Sept. 6, the Salt Bowl golf tournament will be held at Longhills Golf Club in Benton. Anyone interested may sign up by contacting Longhills. The cost is $50 per person and lunch will be provided prior to this event which is sponsored by Gary James and Coca Cola. Rib Crib will provide lunch.
