CABOT — The Bryant Lady Hornets junior varsity volleyball team led from start to finish in their first[more] game then rallied late in the second to earn a sweep of the Cabot Lady Panthers JV on Tuesday night. Bryant won 25-16, 25-19.
Aubree Allen had 10 kills and a solo block and Courtney Davidson served up four aces to highlight the effort.
The Bryant JV improved to 8-4 with the victory going into a home match with Russellville on Thursday.
Davidson also contributed six kills and Kaley Coppock had four. Carley Choate contributed 11 assists. Caylin Choate led the team with eight digs. She was also good on 10 of 11 serves with an ace.
That ace came early in the first game of the match during Bryant’s 8-2 run to take command of the contest. Allen punctuated the blitz with her first kill.
Cabot rallied to within 6-9 but another kill by Allen forced a side-out and the Lady Hornets stretched the lead again. Allen contributed an ace, Erica Smith had a kill and Davidson had three including a pair back to back to run the margin to 18-8. Carley Choate scored on a dink during that stretch as well.
Cabot couldn’t get any closer than eight after that.
In the second game, the Lady Panthers gained the upper hand early but never by more than three until back-to-back aces gave them a 17-13 edge. Bryant coach Julie Long took a timeout and the Lady Hornets responded with a 12-2 rush to close out the game and the match.
Davidson sparked the rally with a kill then rotated into service and knocked down consecutive aces to cut the margin to 16-17. Back-to-back kills by Allen put the Lady Hornets on top. Alex Boone added a successful attack then Allen scored off a solo block to make it 20-17.
Cabot took a timeout but it failed to slow the Lady Hornets down. Allen scored on a tip then Davidson connected for consecutive aces to make it 23-17.
Cabot finally broke serve but the Lady Panthers couldn’t make much headway. It was 24-19 before Allen ended the match with her 10th kill.
