Second-quarter burst keys White win over Blue in seventh grade girls game

The Bryant White Lady Hornets seventh grade team of Bryant Middle School outscored the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets of Bethel Middle School 10-2 in the second quarter Monday night on their way to a 26-17 victory at the Bryant Middle School gym.

White had four players scored 6 points each, Kristyn Weng, Kaitlyn Weng, Jaiyah Jackson and Lauryn Taylor. Rachel Buck added a basket.

Bryant Blue was led by Ashton Inman and Addison Funk. Each had 7 points. Kattrina Johnson added 2 and Abbey Inman pitched in with a free throw.

The two teams were tied at 6 after the first quarter. But all Bethel could manage in the second was a basket by Ashton Inman. Kaitlyn Weng and Taylor each had 4 points in the quarter as White took a 16-8 lead.

Jackson scored 4 of her points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 22-12.

Funk hit a 3 in the fourth quarter for Blue but the deficit proved to be too great to overcome.

The Bryant White team is scheduled to play tonight at Lake Hamilton. Blue is scheduled to wrap up its season on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Cabot White.
