Times, dates set for Bryant schools’ open houses

Classes for 2009-2010 in the Bryant school district will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Open houses for elementary and middle schools in the district will be held the week of the first day of school. These open houses vary between schools in dates held, times and formats.[more]

Bryant Elementary will hold its open house on Monday, Aug. 17. Students in kindergarten, first and second grade will go to their classrooms from 5:30 to 6 p.m. to drop off school supplies and meet teachers. At 6:15, there will be a parent meeting in the gym for these grades. Third, fourth and fifth grade students and their parents should go to the cafeteria at 5:30 for a meeting. At 6:15, they will be allowed to take school supplies to their classrooms and meet their teachers.

The open house for Collegeville Elementary will also be on Aug. 17. This open house will follow a come-and-go format. Kindergarten students and their parents should plan to come between 5:45 and 6:45 p.m. to drop off schools supplies and meet teachers. First through fifth graders should come between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Kindergarten students who will be attending Hurricane Creek Elementary and their parents will begin their open house in the gym at 5 p.m. on Aug. 17. Wanda Beggs, the school principal, will conduct a short meeting and introduce staff and teachers. After the meeting, students and parents will be released to drop off supplies in their classrooms and meet their teachers. First through fifth graders will follow the same routine beginning at 5:30. Information on bussing will also be available, and cafeteria staff will be on hand to take money for school meals.

Paron Elementary open house is scheduled for Aug. 17. All grades are to come to the caffetorium at 6 p.m. Students are asked not to bring school supplies with them.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Salem Elementary will hold its open house. Kindergarten students and their parents should go to the multipurpose building at 5:30 p.m. for a meeting before going to their classrooms to drop off school supplies and meet teachers. First through fifth graders will start their open house at 6:30 in the multipurpose building and will drop off school supplies and meet teachers in their classrooms after the meeting.

Springhill Elementary will begin its open house at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 with a short meeting for all grades in the multipurpose building. Students may bring school supplies to take to their classrooms after the meeting.

The open house for Davis Elementary will follow a very strict schedule this year. On Aug. 17, classrooms will be open between 5:45 and 6 p.m. for students and parents who want to deliver their school supplies. Volunteers will be available to help guide parents to their children’s teachers. At 6 p.m., classrooms will be locked and teachers, parents and students will go to the multipurpose room. At 6:05, a meeting will begin. Teachers will be introduced at this time and students will go with the teachers for their grade to do some activities and get to know their teachers while parents remain in the meeting. Because of the format of the meeting, parents are asked to only bring Davis Elementary School students with them. Door prizes will be awarded to those in attendance.

Bethel Middle School will be splitting their open house into two different nights this year. On Tuesday, Aug. 18, sixth graders will begin their open house with a meeting beginning at 6 p.m. They may bring supplies to take to their lockers after the meeting. The open house for seventh and eight graders will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, the day after school starts. Their open house will also begin with a short assembly at 6. Both open houses will conclude at 7:30 on their respective days.

Bryant Middle School students and their parents will meet in the gym at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 for a meeting to kick-off their open house. After the meeting, students may meet their teachers. Sixth grade students should not bring supplies to the open house because their locker assignments will not be given until the first day of school. Seventh and eighth grade students may bring supplies on this night if they wish. The open house will end at 8.
