Babes capture District championship

By Kirk Stewart

Someone once said, “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” The Boulevard Babes have figured out how to make a tidal wave!

The 6-Under girls softball team was at it again over the past weekend. They captured first place in the ASA Arkansas District 9 6U A/B Division Tournament. The tournament was held in Bryant and boasted some great softball.

The Babes ended the regular season with an undefeated 16-0. Undefeated hasn’t lived in the 6U Bryant Softball Association in four years.

The Babes won all three of their games in the tourney. They defeated the Lil Crushers and the Thunder 02 twice to claim the tournament crown.[more]

After finishing the season with a record of 44-5, the district tournament continued the tidal wave momentum — a momentum they hope to accelerate as they head toward the state championship tournament that will be played in Benton June 26-28.

Some highlights of the team include:

Brianna Hardin, pitcher, had a grand slam in the championship game and had many throws for put outs at first and second base;

Jessica Hebenstreit, ss, caught a pop fly to end the ballgame and knocked in many runs throughout out tournament;

Sammi Steele, 2b, had four great fielding plays that led to four putouts to go with many stops at second base. “Her bat was really alive”;

Maddlyen Thompson, 1b, drove in several runs with a hot bat and Coach Brian Hardin can't say enough about her catches at first base;

Keelin Fullen, infield rover, played really great defense and made great throws to first for putouts, and batting great in clutch times;

Ashley Ward, cf, played great defense and showed a wide range of talent as she played many positions on the field and her bat was very alive, driving the ball really hard;

Cali Rogers, 3b, great defensive stops and some really timely hitting;

Maddy Holliman, lf, great defensive plays and batted 1.000 for the weekend;

Emily Hopper, cf, was the lead-off hitter and made it to base every time and showed great speed on the bases;

Maddy Ray, rf, displayed some great defense backing up first base and getting the ball back into play;

Macie Carter had a great tournament batting with four homers and lots of outs at catcher;

Madison Scifres, pitcher, great batting and lots of speed on the base paths; she had many putouts throwing to first base.

Coaches Lloyd, Jerrod, David, Jason, Chris, Danny, Darrin, and Brian did a outstanding job having these girls ready for play during pre-game warm-ups and great coaching on the field.

Thanks to Brian Hardin for the individual updates.
