Bethel boys’ third-quarter rally falls short at Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Whirlwinds eighth grade team had 11 different players contribute to the scoring as they prevailed over the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth graders of Bethel Middle School Monday night, 52-29.

The Whirlwinds built a 13-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and increased it to 24-9 by halftime.

“We closed the gap to 10 points late in the third quarter before Russellville went on about a 6-point run,” recounted Hornets coach Steve Wilson. “I thought we played better. We are still turning the ball over too much, which led to easy baskets for Russellville.”

The Whirlwinds led 38-22 by the end of the third quarter.

The game completed Bethel’s pre-Christmas schedule. The Hornets will return to action on Monday, Jan. 4, when they travel to take on Cabot Red.
