Blue holds off White in eighth grade girls game, remains unbeaten

In a back-and-forth contest, the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School got the final word in a showdown with the Bryant White Lady Hornets of Bryant Middle School on Tuesday.

The 24-22 win improved the Bethel team to 9-0 on the season going into Thursday’s home game against Lighthouse Charter. In those nine games, the Lady Hornets’ closest calls have come against Bryant White. On Dec. 16, Bethel won 22-17.

“We played good half-court defense that allowed us to get the win,” said Bryant Blue coach Rhonda Hall.

“It was an exciting game,” added Bryant White coach Kenny Hays. “Both teams gave great effort.”

Raija Todd led all scorers with 12 points for Bryant Blue. Raven Loveless had 10 to lead Bryant White.

Danielle Singleton finished with 6 points, Bailey Rowton 4 and Anna Inman 2 for Bethel. Jalen Sparks added 6, Maddie Stephens 4 and Maddie Miller 2 for Bryant Middle.

“We fell behind 6 early then battled back to lead by 5,” recounted Hays. “Then they battled back and took a 7-point lead. We made a late flurry in the fourth quarter but could only get within 2 before we ran out of time. I was proud of our effort.”

Bryant White, now 6-4, hosts Conway White in its next outing on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
