Bryant Blue boys absorb first loss

HOT SPRINGS — The Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School got off to a rough start and never quite recovered as they absorbed their first loss, 38-22, at Hot Springs Lakeside on Thursday night.

The team includes[more] Jake Acord, Austin Green, Ryan Hall, Jason Hastings, Brushawn Hunger, Andrew Kincaid, Blaine Knight, Brian Tackett, Paul Tierney, Brandon Warner, John Winn, Mark Winn, Dylan Wolf and Brendan Young.

The loss dropped them to 1-1 on the season going into a tournament at The Anthony School in Little Rock beginning Monday, Nov. 15.

“We got out-played, out-hustled, and got physically dominated inside,” stated Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “We shot the ball very poorly. Scoring 22 points for this team is just not acceptable. We are going to have to play more physical.”

The Hornets fell behind 11-2 in the first quarter, rallied a little in the second period but still trailed 20-11 at the half. Lakeside held a 26-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Bryant Blue was led by John Winn’s 11 points. Brushawn Hunter added 4, Branden Warner 3 and Jason Hastings and Ryan Hall picked up 2 each.
