Bryant Blue girls finish second, third at Tuesday’s track meet

The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets of Bethel Middle School finished second in the eighth-grade team competition and third in the seventh-grade standings at a track meet held Tuesday, March 9, at Bryant Stadium.

The Blue eighth graders won three events. Dezarea Duckworth accounted for two of them, winning the 200 meter dash in 24.46 and the 100 meter dash in 12.97. The third winning performance came from the 4×800 relay team of Marley Adams, Kayla Nickels, Samantha Macchi and Megan Hodge. They finished in a time of 12.06.84.

For the seventh grade team, Nikki Clay claimed the lone first-place finish, winning the 300 hurdles with a time of 57.90.

In the eighth grade team competition, the Lady Hornets finished with 146 points, finishing only behind Bryant White which won the meet with 196 points. Lakewood was third at 113 followed by Rose City and Ridge Road.[more]

In the seventh grade team standings, Bryant Blue was third with 113 points. Bryant White won with 204 points with Lakewood second with 122.

Duckworth added a second-place finish in the discus with a toss of 61-9. Her shot put of 26-0 was good for third. She also contributed a leg to the 4×100 meter relay, joining Kaci Mann, Aubree Allen and Caroline Wright on a 58.77 clocking that was good for fourth.

Wright scored in four individual events as well. She was second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 33.15; fifth in the discus at 52-1; fifth in the triple jump at 20-3; and eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.88.

Paola Marrero added second-place points with her 59.57 time in the 300 hurdles. She also joined Randie Owens, Adams and Haylee Campbell in the 4×400 relay that earned a second-place finish with a time of 5:19.97.

Second-place points were also garnered by Samantha Machhi in the 800 meter run. She finished in 3:01.73. Machhi was also fourth in the triple jump (23-4) and sixth in the long jump (11-3 ¼).

Campbell added a second in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:12.81. She was also seventh in the long jump at 11-1 ¾.

Fourth-place finishes were turned in by Allen in the shot (25-4); Nickels in the 300 hurdles (1:01.80); Mann in the 100 hurdles (19.45); and Megan Hodge in the 800 (3:10.33).

Morgan Dreer was fifth in the 800 in 3:19.84 and Taylor Curry was sixth in 3:19.85. MacKenzie Hardin finished sixth in the shot with a toss of 21-2.

The seventh grade team took second in two of the relays. In the 4×800, the quartet of Caroline Cato, Rose Railey, Sam Hill and Mikayla Williams finished in 13:31.39. In the 4×100, Dominique West, Clay, Hailey Owens and Rachel Owens finished in 1:00.95.

The 4×400 relay team of Cato, Clay, Ashleen Costello and Mercedes Dillard earned third-place with a time of 5:25.26.

Rachel Owens contributed second-place finishes in the long jump (12-3 ½) and the 100 hurdles (19.08) along with a fifth in the 200 meter dash (30.02).

Dillard was third in the discus (59-8) and the 400 (1:12.75) along with eighth in the 100 hurdles (22.38).

In the shot, Allysa Sturgeon’s toss of 22-3 was good for fourth. She was fifth in the discus with a toss of 55-0. Devin Hester was fifth in the shot (19-3) and seventh in the discus. Anna Marie Blair’s put of 18-8 took sixth in the shot.

Hill’s 1:09.04 was good for fifth in the 300 hurdles while Costello finished sixth in the long jump at 10-7 ¼. She was also seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:19.02.

Seventh-place finishes were also turned in by Railey in the 800 (3:30.02) and West in the 200 (31.74) and 100 (14.70).
