LITTLE ROCK — When you’ve won 10 matches in a row by a combined score of 62-5, including a 6-1 decision in a previous decision against your current opponent, and you dismiss that foe 3-0 — well, it can move your coach to say something like: “We have got to find a way to keep the boys motivated. They just seem to be going through the motions at this point in the season.”

That was the comment from Bryant Hornets coach Brett Haugh after his team led Little Rock J.A. Fair 1-0 at the half and finished with that 3-0 score on Friday night.

“It was hard for the boys to get things going and get things put together,” he stated. “The field conditions may have played a large part in that.”

That’s because the teams were playing on the chopped up grass and dirt of the War Eagles’ stadium.

The Hornets, nonetheless, picked up their 11th victory in a row, moving to 10-0 in South Conference play and 12-4 overall. They haven’t lost since a 3-0 setback at the hands (or feet?) of the Memorial Bulldogs of Edmond, Okla., at the Northwest Arkansas Tournament at Bentonville on March 14.

Corey Laisure scored two of the Hornets’ goals at Fair. The first provided the lone scoring in the first half and came about 11 minutes in off a feed from Evan Caddy.

In the second half, Caddy added a goal in the first three minutes with Blake Reed providing the set-up. Laisure’s penalty kick at 32:05 set the final score.

The Hornets’ junior varsity hosts Hot Springs Lakeside on Monday. On Tuesday, the JV boys play Sheridan at home at 4 p.m., with the varsity boys taking on the Yellowjackets later that evening. Thursday, Bryant hosts Class 6A power Searcy in a non-conference match. Friday, the Hornets travel to Texarkana.
