Lee, Dale complete shutdown day for Bryant hurlers

LITTLE ROCK — Evan Lee and Harrison Dale combined on a one-hit shutout over five innings completing a day in which Bryant Hornets’ pitchers combined for 17 scoreless frames. The duo finished off the day in a junior varsity game against the Maumelle Hornets, which Bryant won 3-0.

Offensively, freshman Garrett Misenheimer ripped an RBI triple and junior Jason Gentry singled him in as part of a three-run fourth, producing the lone runs of the contest.

On the first five outs, Lee recorded strikeouts. The lone hit came amidst that run, a two-out double by Chad Cox in the bottom of the first. In the second, a two-out error was erased by the Bryant lefty when he picked off the runner. Those were the only two base-runners Maumelle could manage in the first four frames.

Bryant broke through in the fourth when Dale’s pop into shallow right fell in for a hit. He advanced on a wild pitch before Misenheimer ripped a 3-2 delivery to left-center for his RBI triple. After Gentry singled him in and a pitching change, an errant pickoff throw allowed Gentry to race to third. He would scored on a wild pitch as Dylan Hurt was earning a free pass.

Lee, who had doubled high off the UALR stadium’s right-field wall in the first, reached on an error with one out in the fifth. Misenheimer blooped a single then Gentry walked to load the bases. But Maumelle kept the Hornets from adding to their lead by turning a doubleplay.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dale walked Cox but struck out Brandon Carter. He then ended it when he got Caleb Disterdick to ground into a doubleplay with Jake East turning in a sparkling play to start it at shortstop.

The Bryant JV team is now 13-0.
