Bryant JV notches first win behind pitching of Jackson, Hurt

Zach Jackson and Dylan Hurt combined on a one-hit shutout over five innings as the Bryant[more] Hornets junior varsity notched a 6-0 win over the Maumelle JV on Monday night.

Trey Breeding had two of Bryant’s six hits in the game. He and Drew Tipton had doubles.

Jackson went the first three frames and allowed the lone hit, a one-out single to center in the third. He fanned five without a walk. Hurt struck out three over the final two innings, pitching around an error and a hit batsman in the fifth.

Bryant scored four times in the first to gain the upper hand. Tipton reached second on an error in the outfield, took third on Austin Caldwell’s flyout and, after Evan Lee was hit by a pitch, scored when Lee stole second and drew a wild throw. Breeding doubled in Lee.

Ty Harris kept the inning going with a base hit, Blaine Jackson drove in a run with a single then Brandan Warner picked up an RBI with a groundout.

The Hornets added a pair of runs in the fourth. Connor Tatum reached on an error, raced to third on a double by Tipton then scored when the ball was misplayed in right. Tipton wound up at third but scored moments later when Caldwell came through with a sacrifice fly.

Bryant’s junior varsity will play again on Thursday after the varsity takes on North Little Rock.
