Mitch Scoggins pumped in 22 points to lead the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School to a 47-38 win over Arkadelphia’s eighth grade team to open the 2009-10 season at Bryant Middle School gym on Thursday, Nov. 12.
The win was the debut for the Hornets under new coach Heath Long.[more]
Arkadelphia built a 27-19 lead in the second quarter but the Hornets surged at the end of the half with an 8-0 run that tied the game.
By the end of the third quarter, Bryant had edged ahead 34-32 before pulling away late.
“We didn’t execute particularly well on the offensive end,” noted Long, “and we struggled some with their athleticism on the defensive end. I also felt like we wore them down as the game went on.”
Greyson Giles pitched in 8 points for the Hornets who return to action at the Cabot Classic for eighth grade teams on Thursday, Nov. 19.
