Bryant White Hornets eighth graders garner three firsts at home meet

The Bryant White Hornets of Bryant Middle School recorded first-place finishes in three eighth-grade events as the team finished fourth overall while the seventh grade took third in its team competition at a track meet held at Bryant Stadium on Tuesday, March 9.

The White eighth grade’s first place finishes came in the 4×800 relay, the 1600 meter run and the long jump. The relay team won with a time of 10:31.92. In the 1600, David Powery prevailed with a time of 5:31.12. Teammate Bryan Riley was third in 5:36.41. Darrian Jarrett took top honors in the long jump, leaping 16-5 ½ while teammate Joseph Floyd finished sixth at 14-2 ½.

Jarrett also turned in a third-place finish in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 1:02.21 with Nicholas Bellew eighth in 1:08.28. Powery was also seventh in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 12.81.

In the other field events, Jaylin McBride finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-6. Jimmy McCann was fifth in the shot with a toss of 35-2 and, in the discus, Michael Kifer’s throw of 61-4 was seventh and Austin May’s 56-6 was eighth.

In the other sprints, Marc Reed took fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.74. Kelsey Hamilton was fourth (19.77) and Floyd seventh (21.28) in the 110 hurdles. In the 300 hurdles, Hamilton took fifth in 50.50 and Floyd finished eighth in 57.70.

The 4×100 relay team was third in 51.52 while the 4×400 team finished fourth in 4:44.72.

For the seventh grade team, the top finish was the second that the 4×800 relay team turned in, with a time of 11:21.68. The 4×100 ream was third in 55.91.

Individually, Kyron Smith and Druid Wen paced the effort with third-place finishes. Smith’s came in the 110 hurdles which he finished in 21.34. Ray Barber was eighth in 23.47. For Wen, it was the 1600 meter run which he finished in 5:52.29. Jim Dellorto was sixth in 6:10 and Nicholas Schmidt was eighth in 6:32.68.

Steven Murdock contributed a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 13-4. Dellorto was fifth at 13-3 and Schmidt was eighth at 12-9.

Bryant White picked up fifth place finishes in the 200, the 100 and the 300 hurdles. Michael Vasquez’s 13.24 clocking in the 100 was fifth while Drew Tipton finished eighth in 14.10. Connor Wise got fifth in the 200 with a time of 28.17 and, in the hurdles, Westin Jones was fifth with a time of 55.24. Smith was sixth in 55.90.

In the 400, Kyle Thompson was sixth in 1:16.40 followed by Clay Weaver in seventh with a time of 1:20.24. Schmidt added sixth-place points in the 800 meter run (2:58.10) with Robert Meeks eighth (3:07.66).

In the discus, Buddy Williams’ toss of 53-7 ½ was good for sixth. Josh Sanders was seventh (46-0) and Hunter Sherman eighth (41-4). Justin Combs added a seventh-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4-0.
