Bryant White teams prevail in girls games at Bethel

The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade B team and the seventh grade A and B teams of Bryant Middle School swept three contests against the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets of Bethel Middle School on Monday at Bethel.

In the eighth grade B game, White eked out an 8-6 win. In the seventh grade A game, White prevailed 33-14 and, in the B game, 21-12.

“I had 14 available girls and I split them into three equal teams and let them play equal minutes in both games,” said Bethel coach Derek McGrew of the seventh grade contest. “This was our fourth game and they all needed to play. I was proud of our effort and our competitiveness. We have improved tremendously since October and still have a long ways to go.”

In the A game, White was led by Tierra Trotter with 10 points. Tyianna Robinsin had 7, Celena Martin and Alivia Allen 6 each. Sierra Trotter scored 3 and Kinley Oholent 1.

In the B game, Madalyn Thompson led White with 7 points. Sierra Trotter added 6, Makaylah Kramer 4 and Kendall Scott 2.

Combined scoring for Blue was paced by Cali Rogers with 8 and Casey Welch with 7. Natalie Harllee finished with 4. Jada Deaton, Essence Williams and Maggie Murray finished with 2 each. Lauren Heath had 1.

In the eighth grade B game, White led 4-0 at the half, 6-2 going into the fourth quarter.

“We ended up letting them come back and tie it up in the fourth but I am proud of the way we regained our composure and finished the game,” said Bryant Middle coach Caleb Harper.

Lexi Helton scored 4 points for White. Imanii Jones and Abby Johnson had 2 each.

For Blue, Alyssa Fason and Bailey Brazil scored 2 each. Grace Ouellette and Rebecca Wertenberger added a free throw apiece.

The Bryant White seventh grade returns to action on Saturday against Cabot South while the eighth grade team was set to play tonight against Russellville.

Both Bethel seventh and eighth grade A teams are scheduled to host Lake Hamilton tonight.
