Daniel retires all four he faces, earns save in professional debut

PASCO, Wash. — Bryant’s Trent Daniel, fresh from his senior season at the University of Arkansas[more] and being picked in the Major League Baseball draft, earned a save in his professional debut Monday night for the Tri-City Dust Devils.

The Dust Devils are a Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies competing in the Northwest League.

Tri-City was clinging to a 7-5 lead after the Eugene Emeralds (San Diego Padres) cut into a 7-3 lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Eugene was threatening in the eighth with a two-out single and a hit batsman bringing the potential lead run to the plate.

Daniel got the call and induced a bouncer to second for the final out of the inning. He continued in the ninth and got his first strikeout to open the inning. He then got a pinch-hitter to tap back to the mound and ended it with a grounder to short.
