Eighth graders win, seventh-graders absorb loss in Bryant White boys games

Romen Martin poured in 18 points to lead the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant[more] Middle School to a 34-26 win over the Lake Hamilton Junior Wolves Tuesday night.

The Bryant White seventh grade team got 18 points from Tristan Calhoun but the Hornets fell short in their bid for a win. Lake Hamilton prevailed 44-38.

Both teams will play again on Monday, Dec. 17, against Bryant Blue of Bethel Middle School.

The White eighth grade squad improved to 6-0 on the season with its victory.

Jonathan Allen added 4 points while Jake East and Brandon Harris scored 3 each.

“For the most part, we did a pretty good job moving the ball against their zone,” commented Hornets coach Heath Long. “I also thought that we defended them pretty well in the half court.

“We didn’t have our absolute best night,” he added, “but the important thing is that we were able to win.”

The Hornets built a 9-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and expanded the margin to 18-8 by halftime. Lake Hamilton rallied in the third quarter but still trailed 25-18 going into the final period.

In the seventh grade game, a high-scoring first quarter had the Hornets up 15-12 but, by halftime, Lake Hamilton had surged to a 20-19 edge. The Wolves held a 31-27 advantage at the end of the three periods.

Bryant White got 6 points from Jon Luke Sprout and 5 from Jake Forst.

“We executed a little better than we did against Cabot South,” said Long. “I was happy with the effort and the way we competed. There are times we just need to play a little smarter. However, this group works hard and is coachable. The mistakes we are making can be corrected on the practice floor.”
