R.E. “Butch” Higginbotham has announced his candidacy for Bryant City Council, Ward 3, Position 1.

Higginbotham has been a realtor for the past five years, currently with Crye-Leike Realtors. Prior to becoming a real estate agent, he worked for 30 years as a Manager of Operations for United States Gypsum, and Gypsum Management & Supply, two years as Vice-President of The Rew Group, and two years as a business consultant specializing in restructuring.

He is a member of the Benton-Bryant Realtors Association, the Bryant Chamber of Commerce, the Home Builders Association of Greater Little Rock, serving on the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Home Show, and he is a board member for Keep Bryant Beautiful.

“My business background has been strong in financing, planning, and development, which is needed for our city as we continue to grow,” Higginbotham said. “I believe safety in and around our schools is a top priority. We also need to look at other sources for water, to help supply our growth and to maintain lower rates. Our aging infrastructure needs to be addressed in a fiscally responsible manner that enables us to meet the needs and live within our means.

“I Love being a realtor,” he continued. “The value of family, community, great schools and teachers, and the quality of life and safety that brought my wife and I to Bryant over 30 years ago are reinforced daily as I help families find their place in our community. As Alderman, I promise to serve our citizens in maintaining and protecting those ideals, and to put Bryant first in working with our city government.”

Higginbotham and his wife of 33 years, Melissa, have two children: Pam and Justin Shoop of Denver, Colo., Ben and Esbeida Higginbotham of Monticello, and one grandson.
