Hornets’ 4×400 time at MoC winds up being short of new record

According to Bryant track coach Steve Oury, it has been discovered that the Meet of Champs record reportedly broken by the Hornets 4×400 relay was in error.

“I noticed yesterday that the Meet of Champs records page on the AAA (Arkansas Activities Association) website indicated Forrest City held the record with a time slightly faster than what we ran,” he explained. “Apparently, the record set by Forrest City in 1977 had been misreported for the last several years. Not sure how it happened.

“I contacted Nick Lasker at the AAA and he and Wadie Moore researched to confirm that the Forrest City time from 1977 was in fact from the Meet of Champs and was even faster than what the AAA site indicates,” the coach said.

The Hornets’ team of Pierce Finney, Brenden Young, Steven Murdock and John Winn ran a 3:16.76. The mark set by Forrest City in ’77 was reportedly 3:17.94 but is listed at 3:14.7 in the AAA record books.

“I’m still very proud of the boys,” Oury said. “Their time is the fastest that has been run in Arkansas in many years.”
