Lady Hornets 3rd, Hornets 6th at OBU swim meet

Jordan CombsARKADELPHIA — Justine Tazelaar won the 200 yard individual medley with teammates Megan Matthew and Alyx Ramsey following in the top five to highlight the Bryant Lady Hornets’ third-place finish at a swim meet held at Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday, Jan. 17.

The Hornets finished sixth among the 13 boys teams competing, led by Jordan Combs’ second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

“We had a good meet,” stated Bryant coach Angel Dale.

The Lady Hornets finished with 236 points, behind only team champion Conway (413) and El Dordado (374) in the 11-team girls competition.

The Hornets wound up with 168 points. Conway won the boys title as well with 440 points with Magnolia a distant second with 278.[more]

Tazelaar’s winning time was 2:40.85, nearly four seconds batter than second place Olivia Bradley of El Dorado. Matthew was just two seconds behind third-place finisher Abby Vann of Magnolia with a time of 3:09.69. Ramsey was right behind her at 3:11.19.

Combs finished the 500 free in 6:00.29 behind only Conway’s Kevin Spatz (5:43.34).

In other girls events, Bryant finished third in the 400 free relay and the 200 free relay. In the former, Haley Machycek, Jordan Martin, Matthew and Erin Moser combining on a time of 4:56.31. In the latter, Moser, Machycek, Rasmey and Tazelaar teamed up on a 2:05.60 clocking.

Tazelaar also contributed a fourth-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 1:03.96. Martin (12th, 1:11.66) and Ramsey (14th, 1:14.57) added points in the event as well.

Taylor Aldridge was fifth and Katelyn Prewitt sixth for the Lady Hornets in the one-meter diving competition. Aldridge’s score was 105.55, Prewitt’s 85.10.

Moser added sixth-place points in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 1:15.57 with Matthew ninth (1:26.76) and Charlie Hunnicutt 14th (1:48.34).

The 200 yard medley relay team of Leslie Henry, Ramsey, Tazelaar and Sarah Brooks garnered seventh-place points, clocking in at 2:39.66 while Martin pitched in points for a ninth-place in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:40.23.

Machycek’s 11th place finish in the 50 free (35.11) added to the Lady Hornets point total as did Brooks’ 12th (3:11.66) and Henry’s 15th (3:31.82) in the 200 free.

After Combs’ second in the 500 free, the Hornets’ next best finish was a third in the 200 free relay. Brennan Bullock, Dylan Machycek, Caleb Thomas and Blake Heil teamed up on a clocking of 1:50.50.

In the 400 free relay, the quartet of Kyle Douglas, Andrew Dull, Dylan Machycek and Combs turned in a 4:34.02 to finish a close fifth, just behind Magnolia at 4:32.04.

Bullock, Heil, Combs and Thomas teamed up in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 2:10.58 was good for ninth-place points with Sylvan Hills (2:10.22) finishing a fraction of second sooner.

Individually, Combs was fifth in the 200 free in a time of 2:15.13. Douglas finished 14th in 2:53.96 to add to the scoring.

Jesse Wolf turned in a ninth place finish in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 1:19.81. Aaron Kizer’s 1:35.10 was good for 11th.

Bullock’s 26.36 in the 50 free took ninth. He was also 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:31.23.

Tenth-place finishes were recorded by Dull in the 200 IM (3:06) and Machycek in the 100 free (1:02.83).

The Hornets also picked up points in the 100 breast stroke with Heil 13th in 1:25.90, and Thomas 16th in 1:28.11.

Bryant was set to compete at Hendrix College in Conway on Saturday, Jan. 24.
