Knocking the rust off after a two-week break from competition, the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman basketball team, rolled to a 24-0 lead before the Malvern Lady Leopard Cubs got on the board with just :29.3 left in the third quarter.

With everyone getting into the game for both teams before it was over, the Lady Hornets wound up with a 24-7 win to improve to 7-7 on the season going into Wednesday’s make-up game at Conway Blue.

The Lady Hornets scored 4 points in the first minute of the game. Sarah Kennedy hit a short jumper then Riley Hill sank a shot from the elbow. It stayed that way until Macey Jaramillo splashed a 3 with 1:21 left in the quarter, making it 7-0.

Malvern managed just four shots in the period, missing all four.

A new set of five players started the second quarter for the Lady Hornets and they pushed the lead to 11-0 by halftime. Deja Relaford’s two free throws in the first moments of the stanza was the only scoring by either team until, with 1:59 left in the half, Bonvillain was fouled. She connected on the first shot but missed the second.  Kasey Ward rebounded, however, and got the ball to Relaford who scored to set the halftime margin.

Destiny Martin scored her game-high 7 points all in the final 3:10 of the third quarter. Kennedy had hit a driving jumper and Hill had popped an eight-foot jumper off a feed from Kendal Rogers to make it 15-0.

Martin’s surge began with a drive to the hoop. She followed with a steal and layup. Rogers drove for a bucket to make it 21-0 before Martin made another theft resulting in a three-point play and a 24-0 lead with 1:52 left in the third quarter.

Malvern’s first basket was a 10-foot jumper by Octavia Caradine, making it 24-2 going into the fourth quarter.
