Lady Whirlwinds’ fast start holds for win over Lady Hornets’ freshmen

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Lady Whirlwinds broke out to an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter on the way to a 32-21 win over the Bryant Lady Hornets in a Central Arkansas Junior High Conference contest on Monday night.

The result sets up Bryant final two games of the regular season, showdowns at Cabot Red on Thursday, Feb. 12, and at Conway White on Thursday, Feb. 19. The Lady Hornets are battling those two teams for a spot in the league’s post-season tournament.

Russellville, which improved to 4-3 in the conference, held a 15-6 lead at the half then the two teams played nearly evenly in the second half. It was 25-13 going into the fourth quarter.

Raven Loveless led Bryant with 8 points. Kelly Williams scored 7, Maddie Miller 3, Daniele Singleton 2 and Paige Adams 1.
