Local SCCC students perform well at competition

Representing the Saline County Career Center were, from left, Jordan Covert, Jacob Curtis, instructor Paul Ames, Michael Hargrave, Kamron DePriest and instructor Joey Bowman.BATESVILLE — Jacob Curtis of Bryant and his teammate Jordan Covert of Benton as well as the team of Michael Hargrave of Bauxite and Kamron DePriest of Harmony Grove earned awards at a competition Saturday, April 23.

The Mark Martin Museam and Ford Dealership was the setting for the Ford/AAA Autoskills Arkansas Hands-On Final Competition. Ten teams, 10 new automobiles, judges from Ford/AAA, Arkansas Career Education officials, and a host of parents and friends crowded into the service shop of the dealership due to the bad weather.[more]

The two Saline County teams were representing the Pulaski Tech/Saline County Career Center.

Paul Ames' team of Covert and Curtis placed fourth in the competition and won the award for the highest scoring team on the written qualifying exam.

Joey Bowman's team of Hargrave and DePriest were the second place team in the competition.

“We wish to formally thank Landers Ford of Benton who worked very closely with our students to help them prepare for this event,” said Mary Jane Dove, director of the SCCC. “The Ford/AAA Autoskills Contest is one of the most exciting opportunities our students experience. The two teams representing PTC/SCCC performed outstandingly and are to be commended for a job well done.”
