Murdock, Royal headed to AAU Nationals with hopes of returning to Jr. Olympics

LITTLE ROCK — Bryant’s Melinda Murdock and Alexis Royal each qualified for AAU Nationals[more] with their performances on Saturday, June 8, at the AAU District Qualifying meet.

Nationals will be held July 28-29, in Yukon, Okla.

Royal, a senior last spring, and Murdock, who will be a senior starting this fall at Bryant High School, will have a chance to represent the Team Elite AAU squad and Lady Hornets track for the second year in a row at the Junior Olympics held Aug. 1-3, at Eastern Michigan University.

To qualify, Murdock, running her first meet of the summer, won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07 Saturday. She was also first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20, qualified by finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.60) and provided a leg of a second-place 4×100 relay team that included Royal.

By covering 34’06”, Royal won the triple jump. She was second in the 100 hurdles to qualify as well.
