Odd, anonymous letters left in mailboxes of area residents

Several Bryant area residents have received anonymous letters in their mailboxes recently. The letters were written on regular notebook paper and contain cryptic messages.

Deana Nall of Kensington Drive received such a note Wednesday, Oct. 21, with this message, “Dear Victim: Everyone is in their own personal coma.” According to Nall, her neighbor received a similar note.[more]

The Bryant Police Department has received several calls about these letters. One resident, who lives on Tanglewood Drive, brought her letter into the Police Department. An incident report says the letter reads, “Dear Victim: Maybe we have to break everything to make something new. Love, Sixfingers.” A resident from Miller Place also reported a note of this nature.

Capt. Phillip Newcomb of the Bryant Police Department said, although nothing criminal had occurred, he was concerned about the sanity of the individual leaving the letters. He recommended residents stay alert and let the police department know if they see suspicious behavior around mailboxes.

Newcomb suggested residents who have received these letters should also call the post office because of the federal nature of crimes involving United States mail.

Postmaster Anita Strickland of the Benton Post Office is in charge of deliveries over the areas in which the letters have been found, but the incidents had not been reported to her at the time this article was written. After being made aware of the situation, she said she would be in touch with the Bryant Police Department and would also contact other postmasters in the area to see if they had received any information about the letters.
