Rotary’s Children’s Closet receives grant, new home to kick off second year

The Bryant Rotary now has a permanent home for the Children’s Closet that was established in November of 2008. The area has been graciously donated by First Security Bank just in time to start its second year of operation.

“First Security Bank is proud to be a participant of the Bryant Rotary’s Children’s Closet as it is a great value to our community,” stated Jack Carney, First Security Bank.

The Bryant Rotary Club has also received a District Simplified Grant from the Rotary Foundation District 6170 for its Children's Closet to purchase shoes. With this $1,500 grant the closet was able to acquire over 100 pairs of shoes to benefit school age children in our community in crisis situations. This closet provides clothing, hygiene products and basic school supplies, free of charge, to children between the ages of 6 and 16.[more]

Bryant Rotary Club makes these items available at the discretion of local professionals in the community who work with children in crisis situations. Items in the closet are distributed by request from administrators of our local Boys and Girls Club, school counselors and local churches, etc. "Need," is determined by the agency or individual making the request. Items are given to children as a gift without additional screening or collection of information.

The Bryant Rotary Club will be hosting a Children's Clothing Collection Drive on Saturday, Dec. 5, between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Clothing can be dropped off in the parking lot of Baxley-Penfield-Moudy Realty, located at the intersection of Reynolds Road & Highway 5. Rotary will be collecting good quality used clothing for the purpose of stocking the Children's Closet.

"The objective of this project is to help meet the needs of the children in the community while advancing the mission and theme of Rotary International," said Michelle Finney, club administrator. "We are hopeful this project will help the citizen's of Bryant become aware of Rotary at work in our community and as a result, this project will expand the community's understanding of what Rotary is about. To date the Children’s Closet has handed out over 2100 garments and helped over 400 children."
