Officer Kyle Dunn was selected as School Resource Officer of the Year at the annual Arkansas Safe Schools Conference.

“To have one of our own receive this award is an honor,” said Devin Sherrill, Communications Director.

Dunn started as a police officer in 2004 in Clark County and came to the Bryant Police Department in 2011. When the School Resource Officer program was re-introduced in the Bryant School District, he said he immediately wanted to be a part of the program due to his prior involvement in another school district in the state.

The Bryant district has become a summer meals site sponsor, which is part of the No Kid Hungry Campaign. The district received a grant to help feed 16,000 meals over 40 days to children in the Bryant Boys and Girls Club summer program.

Gay Sellers, Food Service Director was given credit for getting the grant for the district. “We are honored to be a part of this program,” she said.

With the growth of the district, several new classified positions were brought to the board for approval. A food service manager for Paron Elementary, 3.5 additional Special Education Paraprofessionals, one Maintenance worker and three bus drivers were approved. These items were brought to the board’s attention after the start of school due to the growth and transfer of students within the district. The district is up 584 students compared to last year at this point in the year.

The “Good News” report that is distributed monthly throughout the district is now featuring a district employee as well as a teacher from every campus.
