Bryant JV teams win at home, tie on the road

The Bryant Hornets split their junior varsity squad, sending half to Malvern and keeping the other half at home to take on the Little Rock Catholic JV.

At Bryant Stadium, Sevonte Turner rushed for 175 yards and Simeon Watson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the Hornets’ 20-14 win.

At Malvern, Pierce Finney turned in a 75-yard touchdown run and Jordan Gentry ran in a two-point conversion to give Bryant a lead. Malvern tied it in the late stages and was driving in the final seconds when Jacob Lowe intercepted a pass as it ended in an 8-8 tie.

In the win over Catholic, Madison Schrader tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Paul Tierney to get the Hornets on the board in the opening period. Watson’s kickoff return came in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Drew Alpe scored on a 5-yard run to provide the winning margin.

Cameron Cox and Nick Gatlin each recorded a sack for the defense.

Bryant defensive coordinator Steve Griffith praised the defensive effort in Malvern as well.
