Second game at Little League Regional just doesn’t go Bryant’s way

WACO, Texas — Saturday was a little rugged for the Bryant 12-year-old All-Stars as they suffered their first loss at the 2016 Little League Southwest Regional Tournament.

A trio of pitchers for Texas West state champion McAllister Park American of San Antonio shut out Bryant on one hit over four innings in a 14-0 victory.

The Bryant team, coached by Jason Greiner, includes Braedon Boyce, Gage Buford, Gavin Burton, Caleb Greiner, Drew Hatman, Connor Martin, Colby Morrow, Calvin Myles, Kyler Pabon, J.T. Parker, Cade Parker, Turner Seelinger and Hayden Thompson.

Saturday’s loss set up a game against South Lake Charles, champion from Louisiana, for survival in the tourney on Sunday evening. South Lake Charles lost to McAllister American on Thursday, 3-0, while Bryant was knocking off Pearland, Texas, 4-2.

Seelinger had Bryant’s lone hit, a one-out single in the top of the fourth. It came on the heels of an error that allowed Boyce to reach base. But Blake Compton, the third McAllister American pitcher retired the next to batters to finish off the shutout.

Starter Dominic Tellis dominated into the third, striking out all eight batters he faced. At that point, the Texas team had built an 8-0 lead. Orion Medina relieved with two out in the top of the third and kept the perfect game going by getting the final out on a pop to third.

McAllister American took the mystery out of the outcome with six more runs in the bottom of the third to make it 14-0.

When Boyce reached with one out in the top of the fourth, it spoiled the perfect game and when Seelinger singled, it broke up the no-hitter.
