Second-half slump costs Bryant White at Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Gales eighth grade team went on a 9-0 run to start the second half to snap a 27-27 game. The Bryant White Hornets of Bryant Middle School could never catch back up as the Gales prevailed 45-30 on Monday night.

“I thought we played well in the first half,” said Hornets coach John Harrison. “Our defensive effort was not very good in the second half. Russellville has a good group but we didn’t play with very much energy in the second. We haven’t played since the week before Thanksgiving and were sloppy on the defensive end.

“Will Diggins is playing well inside and we will try to get him the ball more,” the coach added. “When he got touches good things happened. They started double and triple-teaming him at times and we had trouble scoring.”

Diggins still wound up with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Kearney added 6 points.

Up next for the Hornets is a showdown against Bryant Blue at Bethel Middle School this Thursday.
