Skylar Oswalt

NAME: Skylar Oswalt

PARENTS: Jennifer and Ken Oswalt

SIBLINGS: I have a little sister that’s 12, Olivia.

FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL: I’d have to say Orientation to Teaching.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME? Just read my Bible and talk to my friends about stuff.

FAVORITE FOOD: Chicken

FAVORITE MUSIC ARTIST OR GROUP: Blake Shelton[more]

FAVORITE MOVIE: Footloose, the new version.

FAVORITE TV SHOW: I don’t really watch TV.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A KID? When I was little, I had those little Brat dolls I played with all the time with my little sister.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL? To go to Henderson State and get my teaching degree.

OTHER THAN YOUR PARENTS, WHO HAS HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR LIFE? I would have to say my Sunday School teachers I’ve had throughout the years. They’ve just kept telling me to keep going and don’t give up and whenever you’re down, just pray and have God help you with everything. That’s really influenced me because every time I get down, I just listen to them. I go to them for advice.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT CROSS COUNTRY: Just the family that we have. We have this huge family in cross country.

WHAT’S YOUR APPROACH TO A RACE (Strategy/Preparation)? I’ll get my iPod and listen to it and separate myself from the group, get into my own little world and just focus on the race I’m about to run.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE SEASON? It was a great season. As a team, we tried to win, we tried to keep our winning streaks. We just didn’t have it in us but, I mean, we came runner up in almost every race. We were runner-up in conference and I think that’s a big success for us after the seniors we lost last year.

WHAT'S BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT TO THE SEASON? Just having your friends push you, helping you get through the workouts because most of these workouts are really hard for us. But when you have a group with everybody, including the ninth graders, they help us with our practices and they push us.

AFTER YOU'RE THROUGH RUNNING CROSS COUNTRY AT BHS, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL REMEMBER MOST FONDLY ABOUT IT? The family, just having this big old family where we push each other no matter what happens.
