Bryant Lady Hornets senior Abby Staton has been selected to receive one of 21 $500 scholarships awarded by the Debra McMaster Foundation in conjunction with Debra McMaster Memorial Softball Tournament. Staton’s scholarship is sponsored by Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, and Hampton Inn of Hope where the annual tournament is held, hosted by Spring Hill High School.
Staton has signed to continue her education and softball career at Central Baptist College in Conway this fall.
McMaster, a math teacher at Spring Hill, was among those killed in the floods at Albert Pike Campground in June 2010, after saving the lives of a mother and two children.
Staton and her Lady Hornets teammates were scheduled to play in the annual tournament this season but the original tournament was rained out and there was a conflict that prevented them from playing in the event when it was rescheduled.
