Activities building up to 2011 Salt Bowl begin today

Events leading up to the 2011 Salt Bowl get underway today when Everett Buick GMC hosts a pep rally for[more] the Benton Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Hot dogs, supplied by Cajun Eatery of Bryant will be served.

On Tuesday, a similar pep rally will be held for the Bryant Hornets at 5:30 p.m.

The Blood Drive contest between the two high schools will begin on Tuesday as well. The American Red Cross will be at Benton High from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bryant will get its chance at the Blood Drive on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fans will get a chance to donate blood the day of the game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Those donating a pint of blood will receive a rally towel of their team of choice, sponsored by Ink Inc.

Thursday will also be the day that both schools host the pre-game pep rallies.

All through the week, the elementary schools in both school districts will be collecting peanut butter to be donated to the Arkansas Rice Depot.

Prior to the game on Friday, the 2011 version of Arkansas’ Largest High School Football Tailgate Party will begin at 5 p.m., outside War Memorial.

During the game, fans will be urged to text for the American Cancer Society. In addition, Auto Body America of Bryant will be donating a vehicle to the Rice Depot and the area banks will have donations for the Rice Depot as well.

Halftime contests will include the Chick-fil-A field goal kicking contest for a chance to win chicken from the restaurant for a year. Sign-ups are available at the Bryant location. Also, the Everett football toss will be held, giving three people, whose names will be drawn between the first and second quarter, a chance to win a new truck. Registration for the drawing will be held at the Tailgate Party.

Tickets for the game are now on sale at all area Big Red Valero locations. For $10, fans get a ticket and an official Salt Bowl t-shirt in the colors of their favorite team. Tickets at the gate will be $8 and t-shirts at the game will be $15.
