Blue Hornets’ ‘most complete game’ lifts them into championship game

LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade basketball team advanced to the finals of The Anthony School Classic with a 58-36 win over Arkansas Baptist on Wednesday.The two teams will meet again tonight at 6 o’clock for the title.

The win improved the Hornets to 4-0 on the season and, again, balanced scoring was the order of the day. Bryce Denker, Garrett Phillips and Chase Christie each finished with 13 points. Jacob Irby added 9.[more]

“This was by far our most complete game of the year,” declared Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “We shot the ball very well and executed on offense. Our full court man press was very effective. We have seven boys that are capable of putting up double digits on any given night.”

The Hornets broke out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter. It was 27-17 by halftime and 40-26 going into the third quarter.
