Bryant Blue wins eighth grade boys battle with Bryant White

John Winn poured in 17 points to lead the Bryant Blue Hornets of Bethel Middle School past the Bryant White Hornets of Bryant Middle School, 38-24, in eighth-grade action on Monday night.

The Blue team includes[more] Jake Acord, Austin Green, Ryan Hall, Jason Hastings, Brushawn Hunter, Andrew Kincaid, Blaine Knight, Brian Tackett, Paul Tierney, Brandon Warner, John Winn, Mark Winn, Dylan Wolfe and Brendan Young.

The Bryant White team includes Logan Moore, Max Sullivan, Austin Montgomery, Robert Meeks, Steven Murdock, Madison Schrader, Connor Tatum, Blake Patterson, Brent Michael Barker, K.J. Hill, Kyron Smith, Bryce Bowen, Mar’kevius Nelson, Brett Fisher, Austin Masters, Hunter Oglesby, J.C. Newborn, Austin Fisher, Daniel Bradford, Blaine Hampton and Hunter Sherman.

Blue, now 8-5, built a 12-7 lead in the first quarter and held a 14-13 edge at the half. But a surge in the third quarter produced a 27-17 advantage going into the final period.

Warner added 9 points and Hall 6 for Bryant Blue. Hastings and Mark Winn finished with 3 each.

Hill led Bryant White with 7 points. Tatum had 6 with Newborn and Oglesby finishing with 5 apiece.

“We did a good job of playing at the tempo we wanted in the first half,” commented White coach Heath Long. “I thought we did an outstanding job defensively in the half court as well.

“Once we got down in the third quarter, we had to speed the game up, which played a little more into their hands,” he added. “Credit to Coach (Derek) McGrew and Bethel, they have a very good basketball team. We look forward to seeing them again in February.”

The game was the last before the holidays for Bryant Blue. The team will next play on Jan. 6 against Pulaski Academy.

Bryant White was set to host The Anthony School of Little Rock on Tuesday, Dec. 14, then play at Vilonia on Thursday before the Christmas break.
