Bryant Engineering instructor recognized as AFA State Teacher of the Year

By Devin Sherrill, Bryant Public Schools Communication Director

John Williams, engineering instructor at Bryant High School, was recently named Air Force Association 2014 High School Teacher of the Year for Arkansas, along with earning the local chapter’s designation for teacher of the year.

These prestigious Air Force Association awards are presented annually to educators who have gone the extra mile to increase student interest in math, science and technology. The awards also serve to recognize exceptional performance in education at the state and local levels.

Jerry Reichenback, president of the local AFA chapter and president-elect of the state chapter, along with wife Ann, presented both awards to Williams. On behalf of the state association, current president Larry Louden congratulated Williams on his accomplishments.

Along with grants and scholarships, the Air Force Association believes that recognizing those who educate America’s youth is an important aspect of what AFA is all about. AFA chapters nationwide work to insure youth receive education in math and the sciences and that those who teach and support the educators are recognized.

Williams joined Bryant Schools in 2012, bringing with him a degree in fiber engineering. He teaches engineering along with aeronautic and space classes.

In the past two years, Williams has grown the H.E.A.T. (Hornet Engineering and Technology) program to include robotics, flight lessons, and drones.
