LITTLE ROCK — With second-place performances in two events — both involving senior star Lindsey Butler — the Bryant Lady Hornets accumulated 170 points to finish fourth in the Class 7A/6A State swim meet at UALR on Saturday.

Bentonville amassed 404 points to win the team title. Conway was second with 211 with Cabot third with 194. Springdale was fifth in the 21-team field with 156 points.

It took State record performances to deny the Lady Hornets in both the 200 yard medley relay and Butler, in particular, in the 100 yard backstroke. She was also third in the 100 free.

In the 100 back, Butler finished in 58.00 as Carly Holland of Rogers Heritage set the new State standard with a 56.92. Bryant’s Katie Higgs was eighth in 1:07.31.

Along with Jessica Butler, Libby Thompson and Ploy Freebairn, Lindsey Butler helped the Lady Hornets’ medley relay team turn in a 1:56.10. Cabot’s quartet of Jessie Baldwin, Riley Young, Melanie Abbott and Caytee Wright won the event with a State record time of 1:54.92.

Lindsey Butler’s 54.32 in the 100 free was edged by Holland’s 52.96 and Wright’s 53.34.

Another highlight for Bryant was a fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in which the Butler sisters, Higgs and Freebairn turned in a 3:52.34. Another State record won the event. Bentonville set this one with a 3:36.16.

The Lady Hornets produced four more top 10 finishes and a couple of near misses. Jessica Butler was eighth in the 200 individual medley, posting a 2:27.58. Higgs was 11th in 2:33.23. Butler was also 11th in the 100 butterfly, turning in a 1:05.13.

Libby Thompson’s 1:15.54 in the 100 yard breast stroke earned a ninth-place finish. She then joined Taylor Wilson, Reagan Smith and Higgs in the 200 freestyle relay. They turned in a 1:51.54 to take 10th.

Freebairn was 10th in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.86. Another State record was set in the event. Bentonville’s Taylor Pike set it at 1:51.45.
