Daniel shines for Hogs at San Diego State

Bryant's Trent Daniel, working out the bullpen for the Arkansas Razorbacks, made two scoreless[more] appearances over the weekend at San Diego State. In four innings, he struck out seven and earned his first save of the season closing out Sunday's 5-2 win. Over two innings, the lefty allowed just one hit, walked one and fanned four. 

Daniel, a two-time all-State performer for the Hornets, is a redshirt sophomore who transferred after his freshman year at Arkansas-Fort Smith. He appears to have hit his stride after sitting out the 2010 season. In five appearances so far, all in relief, he's pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and six walks while striking out 11. He sports a 4.26 earned run average with opponents hitting just .182 against him.

At UAFS in 2009, Daniel went 6-2 with a 5.69 ERA as a starter. In 14 appearances, he worked 61 2/3 innings and struck out 80. He was named to the all-region second team. 

The son of Tom and Kathy Daniel, Trent was 6-2 in his senior season at Bryant. In 72 innings, he struck out 124, walked 39 and allowed just 42 hits. His ERA was 0.88. He also hit .382.
