Episcopal outlasts Blue Hornets in high-scoring Classic finale

LITTLE ROCK — It went down to the wire but the Little Rock Episcopal Collegiate Wildcats eighth grade team edged the Bryant Blue Hornets of Bethel Middle School, 51-49, in the finals of the Anthony School Classic on Saturday.[more]

The Bryant Blue team includes Jake Acord, Austin Green, Ryan Hall, Jason Hastings, Brushawn Hunter, Andrew Kincaid, Blaine Knight, Brian Tackett, Paul Tierney, Brandon Warner, John Winn, Mark Winn, Dylan Wolfe and Brendan Young.

“It was a very entertaining game,” commented Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “Both teams played well and it was a case where one team had to lose. I was very proud of these young men and we are starting to play much better. We have been dealing with injuries and have not had a full roster thus far.”

The Hornets were led by Warner’s 16 points. John Winn added 13 and Hastings 10. Kincaid and Mark Winn pitched in with 4 apiece and Ryan Hall had 2.

Episcopal grabbed a 19-12 lead in the first quarter but led just 24-22 at the half. The Wildcats held a 35-34 edge going into the fourth quarter.

The Hornets, now 3-3, return to action on Monday, Nov. 29, at Lake Hamilton.
