NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Hornets junior varsity team fell behind 21-0 before rallying to within a touchdown only to[more] come up short in a 27-14 loss at North Little Rock on Monday night.
The Charging Wildcats led 14-0 at the half then scored to start the third quarter.
“We uncharacteristically dropped several ball or misfired on open receivers,” mentioned Bryant coach Dale Jones, regarding the early struggles.
The Hornets drove to the North Little Rock 10 with quarterback Wesley Akers completing key passes to Greyson Giles and Austin Powell but they wound up turning it over on downs.
Moments later, however, Dustin Fiser intercepted a North Little Rock pass and returned it for a touchdown to get the Hornets on the board.
An onside kick by Josh Lowery surprised the Wildcats and was recovered by Devontae Howard for Bryant. The Hornets took advantage, driving to another score with Akers sneaking it in for the TD to cut it to 21-14.
Another onside kick followed but the Wildcats recovered and drove for a clinching touchdown.
The Bryant sophomore team is scheduled to play Bauxite on Monday, Oct. 10, while the junior varsity team travels to Lakeside.
