Hornets struggle at Lake Hamilton meet after tough week

HOT SPRINGS — The Bryant Hornets competed at the Lake Hamilton cross country Invitational Saturday at[more] Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, placing ninth out of 21 teams. The Hornets scored 244 points to finish behind Little Rock Catholic (80 points), Russellville (82), Little Rock Christian (100), Bossier City, La., Parkway (109), Heber Springs (117), Caddo Hills (157), DeQueen (165), and Lake Hamilton (214).

Tyler Purtle led the Hornets with a 31st place finish in a time of 18:11. Alex Hunt (39th in 18:26), Clifton Hampton (59th in 19:01), Nick Ballew (61st in 19:02), Damian Kropp (65th in 19:13), Spencer Adami (73rd in 19:21), and Peter Alverio (75th in 19:26) rounded out the Hornets top seven.

“We had some guys a little under the weather today, which combined with a hard training week left us a little flat,” said Hornets coach Steve Oury. “Alex Hunt and Spencer Adami both had great races, but some of our other front runners struggled for various reasons.

“We will be looking to get our legs back under us for the Chile Pepper meet next week in Fayetteville,” he added.
