Hornet JV breaks open close game with 11-run uprising (corrected)

By Rob Patrick

Tyler Green and Lucas Castleberry each had two hits while Quinton Motto and Bradon Jones combined to limit[more] the Arkadelphia Badgers junior varsity team to just a pair of doubles in five innings as the Bryant JV rolled to a 14-2 win on Thursday night.

The Hornets broke up a close game with an 11-run fourth.

Green drove in four runs, Castleberry and Wesley Akers knocked in two each.

Motto fanned five without a walk in three innings of work. Jones walked three and struck out four in two frames without giving up a hit.

Arkadelphia got its two runs in the opening frame. Kris Oliver doubled with one out then Jakahari Howell was hit by a pitch. Lane Jester doubled in a both.

Motto cut it off there, however, by fanning Austin White and getting Griffin Rucker to fly out.

Bryant got on the board in the bottom of the inning on consecutive two-out walks to Akers, Daniel Richards, Castleberry and Green.

It stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the third as Motto set down the side in the second and third, finishing with eight that he set down in a row.

The Hornets’ two-run third began with a one-out walk to Richards. Castleberry doubled to left then Green drew a free pass to load the bags. Wilson walked to force in a run then Ashton Green was hit by a pitch to bring in the go-ahead tally.

Jones came on and overcame a trio of two-out walks to keep it 3-2.

The Hornets’ game-busting fourth started with Ozzie Hurt’s fly to center being misplayed, allowing him to get to second. He took third on Akers’ groundout then Richards drew another walk. Castleberry’s single brought Hurt home then Tyler Green singled to drive in Richards. An error allowed Castleberry to follow. And when Wilson’s fly to center was misplayed, Tyler Green scored to make it 7-2.

With Wilson on third, Ashton Green walked and took second. A passed ball allowed Wilson to score then Hayden Daniel drew a free pass as did Hurt. A base hit by Akers drove in Ashton Green and Daniel as the lead ballooned to 11-2.

Hurt scored on an error and Akers came home when Richards fly to center was botched. Richards came in when Castleberry’s drive to right wasn’t handled then Tyler Green drove him home with the final run.

In the top of the fifth, Jones struck out the first two then ended it with a fly out.

The JV team is set to play again today in a doubleheader at home against Little Rock Catholic.
